What is the BELL project?
BELL (Business Environment Learning and Leadership) is an international
environmental education project that was launched by the World
Resources Institutes (WRI), with renowned universities and business
schools in countries like the USA, Canada, etc. taking part in
it, and receiving support from numerous transnational corporations.
Since the early 1990s, the BELL project has been carried out in
North and Latin America, gaining great popularity, and since 2000,
it has been implemented in the Asian region, the CEEC being its
organising and coordinating institution for China.
The purpose for establishing this project was to make contents
like environmental education and sustainable development an integral
part of business school curricula. By faculty training , compiling
teaching materials and case studies, providing up-to-date materials
and information, schools are offered help in adjusting industrial
practices and changing technical skills, which are relevant for
curricula development and research. Moreover, by developing means
like the regular exchange between the government, academic organisations,
business schools, and businesses a working network of close contacts
can be established, together with the fact that environmental
education is pushed to a higher level, and causing today’s business
school students – and tomorrow’s managers – to become environmentally
friendly partners in their future strategic decision-making.
