Technological cooperation between the CEEC and Japan International
Cooperation Agency(JICA) started in 1996. JICA is an executive
organization of Japanese government for technological cooperation,
which implement cooperation with developing countries in infrastructure,
agriculture, environment, medical treatment & health care,
and human resource. During the period from 1996 to 2000, JICA
contributed a large quantity of equipment for film production
and training and hundred thousands RMB for supporting CEEC’s project
implementation on environmental education, and teaching materials
compiling. At the same time, JICA sent long-term and short-term
Japanese experts to China for giving direction and assistant to
those projects.
In 2000, the Sino-Japan Center
and the JICA started to cooperate in implementing a personnel-training
plan-the Sino-Japan Technological Cooperation in Training for
Controlling Acid Rain and Sulfur Dioxide Pollution. This plan
aims to train personnel from China’s local governments and enterprises
who are working to control acid rain and sulfur dioxide pollution.
In accordance with the State’s general arrangements for the two
controlling areas (acid rain and sulfur dioxide pollution) work,
the contents of training include prevention and remedy technology
against acid rain and sulfur dioxide, management policy, control
of pollution sources and monitoring technology. The CEEC is responsible
for the implementation of this plan, holding three training sessions
each year. It is estimated that a total of 750 personnel will
receive the training.
