What shall we do facing the uncertainty of nature?

It was said that human being had handled too much power that out of
our reach, and this would bring about huge disaster which may lead
to our annihilation. Although we have the power to change the appearance
of our environment around us, few of us could foresee the effect of
the shifts. It was as hazardous as to give a gun to a little kid.
Most of the time we were rather shortsighted, couldn’t wait to use
our newly gained power to get more from the nature. After some decades
or so, we would find out that it would take us a lot of time, money,
even people’s lives to make up for the ruined environment. Even some
measures we took for protecting the environment turned out to be the
opposite consequences. We know little about the function of nature,
so we have to try to use our own way to change it, in order to get
it to serve our needs. So it is not a surprise to see the way we used
to think to be a rather “green” one turned out to be rather dreadful.
We have to learn from our mistakes, trying thousands of times to find
a correct way to get the harmony between the development of human
being and the normal function of nature. But before that, we still
need to pay mass to improve our overloaded environment little by little.
Just as the author said, nature is rarely simple. When changing some
parts of the nature, we do not know what will happen. The only thing
we can do is to wait for the result turning out. If it is out of our
expectation, we shall take some other measures to solve the newly
coming problem.
It seems that the best solution to us is not to do anything, just
sitting down and waiting. Shall we do that? Does it mean that we can’t
do anything confronting the uncertainty of nature? As long as we live
on this planet, until our deaths, we take our daily use from the nature
and throw rubbish back to it. In short, we change the environment
everyday. If we do not act like that, we could not survive. So the
point is not how to build a perfect model to foresee what the change
will be, it never existed, and would be unable to emerge. As the change
is unavoidable, we should adjust our life style to fit the new situation.
Actually there are many things we can do. Such as replanting trees,
saving water and electrical power, or something like that. At least
these are proved to be good for our environment now. Like social reform,
it usually needs a long time to take place, and few people know what
it is heading on. People have to push it forward step by step, trying
different methods to find the correct direction. As science and technology
developing so quickly, it is hopeful for us to find better solutions.
