Dr. Thomas Wagner
Dr. med. and Dr. iur.,
Former Mayor of the City of Zürich
Dr. Wagner was born 1943. He gratuadet at the University of Zürich
in Law and in Medicine (PhD). Dr. Thomas Wagner was as Medical Doctor
member of the staff in the Clinic of Ophtalmology (University Hospital
Zürich). 1982 he was elected as Mayor of the City of Zürich for
eight years (1982-1990) and Member of the City Government of Zürich
for twenty-four years. As Mayor of Zürich he initiated the relationship
between Zürich and Kunming (Capital of the Province of Yunnan) as
sister cities in 1982. He was responsible for successful pilot projects
between Zürich and Kunming in the cultural and environmental sector
(water distribution, water purification, public traffic, protection
of historical monuments, regional planning etc).
When he retired in 2002, Mr. Wagner opened a consulting firm for
facilitating bilteral relations between Switzerland and China in
business, culture and tourism. The scope of Mr. Wagner's business
activities extends to all provinces in China, which he has visited
over fifty times. He is also President of the Swiss-Chinese Association
for Friendship and President of the Swiss Association for Foreign
Affairs with excellent relations to the Chinese People's Association
for Friendship with Foreign Countries and The Chinese People's Association
for Foreign Affairs. Mr. Wagner is an honorary citizen of Kunming.
He was also appointed Professor of Tongji University and Kunming
University.
